About Scouting
Cub Scouts are organized by location into a regional council, Pack 504 belongs to the Pacific Harbors Council, then into smaller groups designated by the school district they represent (ours is the Sumner/Bonney Lake SD) this group is called a Pack. Each Pack is sub divided into groups by grade called Dens. Each Pack may have 1 Den for each grade (K-5), or they may have more than 1 Den per grade, or may have no Den for certain grades. The number of scouts in each Den varies and is determined by the Den leader(s).
Cub Scout Dens work as a group to complete requirements to achieve adventure loops. Once all of the necessary adventure loops have been earned, a scout will earn the Rank Badge associated with their grade. A rank badge is earned over the course of a school year. It is not necessary to earn each years badge in order to move onto the next rank. A scout can start at any grade and will complete the adventure that applies to their current grade level regardless of prior scouting experience. Ranks by grade: K – Lion 1st – Tiger 2nd – Wolf 3rd – Bear 4th – Webelo 5th - Arrow of Light While each Pack chooses the level of summer activity and participation, requirement activities follow the calendar set by the school district being served. In Bonney Lake/Sumner a new year kicks off in late August/early September and ends in June. Some packs organize summer Pack activities that are not required attendance and are purely for fun and to keep the scouts engaged.
